Teen/Adult CanSkate


It's Never Too Late to Learn to Skate!

 

What is Teen/Adult CanSkate?

Teen/Adult CanSkate is a learn-to-skate program specifically for our participants aged 13 and up who are either new to ice skating or want to refresh their skills. 

Who Teaches it?

NCCP-trained professional coaches, assisted by trained program assistants (members of our figure skating program).

What will you learn?

This fun class will focus on the fundamentals of skating including but not limited to how to get up and fall down safely, moving forward, backwards and stopping. 

What can you expect?

Participants can expect to learn skating basics in a safe, enjoyable, and adaptable environment, tailored specifically for teen and adult learners.

 

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

 

What is the required equipment?

Skaters must wear skates and a CSA-approved hockey helmet and should also wear warm but flexible clothing like long pants, mittens, warm sweater or jacket. 

What kind of skates? 

Hockey or figure skates are preferred - plastic/velcro/adjustable skates are allowed however are not recommended. Check out our FAQ page for help in finding the right skates. 

What is a CSA approved helmet? 

A CSA-helmet is a standard hockey helmet (Cages/face shields are optional).

Note: Bicycle helmets and other helmets will NOT be permitted.

What are the fees? 

The registration fees for Teen/Adult CanSkate will depend on how many sessions are provided in the season. Typically, sessions are between 8 and 10 weeks (1 class per week) and costs are listed on the registration page. 

Additional fees include the Skate Canada Membership fee. This once per season fee (Sept 1st to Aug 31st of the following year) is mandatory for each participant and covers each skater's liability insurance while on OSC ice. This fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable. 

 

When is Teen/Adult CanSkate offered? 

Teen/Adult CanSkate is offered 2 times per year - Fall and Winter.

Fall season begins at the end of September/beginning of October and ends in December. 

Winter season begins in January and ends in March. 

 

Each movement is only learned after you’ve
perfected the one before it.
