PreStar
The First Step on the Figure Skating Pathway
*NEW PROGRAM for 2026/27*
What is PreStar?
PreSTAR is an introductory figure skating program designed for skaters who have developed strong basic skating skills and are interested in pursuing figure skating. Offered within the CanSkate session, skaters are grouped together and introduced to the fundamentals of the STARSkate pathway.
PreSTAR serves as the bridge between CanSkate and our Pre-Junior program, helping skaters build confidence, independence, and foundational figure skating skills in a fun and supportive environment.
Who's it for?
Skaters must be 5 years of age or older and able to:
-
Skate forward and backward confidently
-
Stop independently
-
Demonstrate strong basic skating skills
We recommend completing at least one full CanSkate session before joining PreSTAR.
Who teaches it?
NCCP-trained professional coaches, assisted by trained program assistants (trained members of our figure skating program).
What will participants learn?
Skaters will begin learning the foundations of figure skating, including:
-
Edges and turns
-
Balance and coordination
-
Jump and spin fundamentals
-
Basic skating technique
-
Musicality and performance skills
The focus is on developing strong skating habits and preparing skaters for the next step in their skating journey.
What can you expect?
PreSTAR participants skate within the CanSkate session while receiving specialized instruction geared toward figure skating. Skaters continue developing strong fundamental skills while being introduced to the elements and structure of the STARSkate program.
