"I don't know how many skaters from the early years are still skating but my hope / goal in founding the club was to give the skaters a skill that would be a lifelong pleasure and sense of accomplishment, and possibly teach them good sportsmanship along the way."

- Helen Blondin founder of the Okotoks Figure Skating Club

OSC History

The Okotoks Figure Skating Club was founded by Helen Blondin with the help of Thelma Snider in 1965. At that time, the Club began with a group of 37 skaters and one coach.

Over 50 years later, our Club has grown to over 600 skaters with a full team of regular coaches. We are proud to have been coaching athletes of all ages in and around the Foothills since then.

The Evolution of OSC

Since then, the Okotoks Skating Club (OSC) has evolved, including a transition to remove 'figure' from the club's name. This change reflected our commitment to being a more inclusive skating club that embraces all types of skating disciplines.

We're honored to teach you and your children how to skate in a safe and fun environment. We're dedicated to providing inclusive programs because we believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn to skate.

Volunteer!

As a registered not-for-profit organization, volunteerism is central to our success and longevity.

Our Club is managed by a dedicated volunteer-based board of directors who generously contribute their time and expertise to ensure the continued operation of the Club.

Daily operations and events rely on the support of volunteers, and we take pride in our strong and committed volunteer base.
