Get a step up on the competition with CanPowerSkate, a high-energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette players. This program focuses on balance, control and agility skills including components of power and speed. Skating skills, techniques and performance drills are taught in a progressive format by Skate Canada coaches certified through the NCCP to enhance the skating ability required in game situations.
Some of the top players in the NHL have trusted Skate Canada’s best-in-class programs to help them reach hockey’s biggest stage including Nathan MacKinnon, Matt Duchene, Mark Scheifele and Jeff Skinner.
Please note: The CanPowerSkate program is exclusive to Skate Canada and is available only to Skate Canada member clubs and sanctioned skating schools. All participants must be registered with Skate Canada. Only Skate Canada member Coaches trained and certified at a CanPowerSkate Coaches Course are qualified to instruct the CanPowerSkate program.
FALL/WINTER 2022-23 REGISTRATION GUIDE
CanPowerSkate's PrePower
An introductory power skating program geared to skaters aged 5 years old and up who are interested or are currently in a first time hockey or ringette program. This is NOT a Learn to Skate program; skaters should be able to skate forwards and backwards PRIOR to registering and/or have passed the PreCanSkate program. It program will further develop basic skating abilities including balance, stopping, agility, crossovers, and basic forward and backward stride, in a fun learning environment. CSA approved helmet and a hockey stick are mandatory for this program, hockey equipment is optional and a water bottle is required.

CanPower
An action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations. CanPowerSkate provides an alternative to figure skating and is an excellent complement for those athletes playing on hockey or ringette teams. Its unique skill award program provides incentives and motivation for skaters to continue to achieve. CanPowerSkate is geared to skaters aged approximately six or older who already have basic forward and backward skating skills (they must be able to skate the length of the rink using alternate strides) and are able to stop on command without use of the boards. For safety reasons participants should wear full hockey/ringette equipment that is CSA approved. The coach to skater ratio is 1:10.
Power A
CanPower A is for athletes aged 6 and up that are potentially registered in Initiation (U7) to 1st year U11 (Atom) Level Hockey and Ringette programs. CanPower A is an action packed, high energy program that focuses on balance, stopping, initial power, crossovers, and endurance with specific training and techniques to developing proper and efficient forward and backward stride. This is NOT a learn to skate program. Participants may have passed Stage 6/7 of the CanSkate Program, and/ or graduated from the PreCanPower Program. Skaters must be able to participate in a fast paced 45-minute session. This is an excellent supplementary program that will refine and hone your skating skills for life!

Power B
CanPower B is a fast-paced, agility-driven power program that is designed for hockey or ringette players that already have a strong level of skating abilities (forward, backward, stopping, forward and backward crossovers). This program will take existing skills and further develop and enhance a players speed, strength and agility. This program is a dynamic and fast paced full hour training session. Participants are typically 2nd year U11 or higher Hockey / Ringette.
